A new plot synopsis for Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice has been released, revealing how Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor fits into the film's plot.

The synopsis listed on the Odeon cinema chain's website teases: "At long last, see Batman and Superman square off against each other in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, an epic superhero showdown which will change both their lives forever.

"Clark Kent doesn't trust Gotham's mysterious masked vigilante. Bruce Wayne doesn't trust the alien who nearly destroyed Metropolis. And Lex Luthor, who hates Superman more than anyone, is manipulating both of them for his own twisted ends."

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is set to open in cinemas worldwide on March 25, 2016. Director Zack Snyder recently revealed that the beginning of the film is weighted more heavily towards Ben Affleck's Batman than Henry Cavill's Superman, but "evens back out" as the narrative progresses.

Meanwhile, Cavill recently confirmed that the film isn't conceived as a sequel to 2013's Superman reboot Man Of Steel, but is "more of an introduction to Batman, an opening to Justice League, and an expansion of the world that was created in Man of Steel".

The superhero mash-up movie also stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Holly Hunter as a US Senator, Laurence Fishburne as newspaper editor Perry White and Diane Lane as Superman's adoptive mother Martha Kent.

It has recently been reported that Affleck is to direct, co-write and star in a stand-alone Batman film set for release at some point in 2018.
