New episode of 'Only Fools And Horses' reportedly in the pipeline
Del Boy and Rodney to ride once again?
A new episode of Only Fools And Horses is reportedly in the pipeline for next year, meaning Del Boy and Rodney could return to our screens once again.
Sir David Jason, who plays wheeler dealer Del Boy said he had received a script, but told The Times he had not yet read it. "I've had a quick look at the treatment and it's very good," he said, "but I'm saving the proper read-through until there are no distractions. It's not the sort of thing you can muck about with."
If it were to happen, it would be the first new episode of the series since creator John Sullivan died in 2011. Only Fools And Horses was first shown in 1981 and ran as a regular series until 1991. After that, there were sporadic Christmas specials with the last of these being shown in 2003. In 2008, Sullivan said there would never be another series of the comedy, although the new script has been written by his son based on ideas his father had for the characters.
The comedy was set in Peckham in south London, and along with Jason, starred Nicholas Lyndhurst as Rodney and Buster Merryfield as Uncle Albert. An unseen episode titled Licensed To Drill was recently unearthed, too. Filmed in 1984, the special shows Del Boy trying to make a quick quid by getting involved in the oil business. The 19-minute film was an educational programme funded by the oil industry and was played to school children in the 1980s to encourage children to follow a career in oil.
David Jason will resurrect another of his famous characters this Christmas. A one-off episode of Open All Hours will be broadcast on Boxing Day called Still Open All Hours, which will see Jason star as Granville, once a put-upon errand boy, now the owner of Arkwright's corner shop. Open All Hours, which used to star Ronnie Barker, was last seen on TV in 1985. A new series will be shown next year.
