New 'Ocean's Eleven'-style Robin Hood movie called 'Merry Men' in the works
It'll re-imagine the story as an ensemble piece focusing on Friar Tuck, Little John and the gang
Titled Merry Men, the film will focus not on Robin Hood himself, but on the story's traditional supporting characters such as Maid Marian, Friar Tuck and Little John. According to Deadline, it will be similar in tone to classic ensemble romps Ocean's Eleven and The Dirty Dozen.
The film will be scripted by Brad Ingelsby, who also wrote the screenplay to Christian Bale's next film Out Of The Furnace. Scott Waugh, who is helming the upcoming Need For Speed movie, is attached to direct.
The Robin Hood story has been told countless times on the big screen, most recently in 2010's Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe, which was directed by Ridley Scott. Before that, Kevin Costner played the legendary outlaw in 1991's Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, the film which spawned Bryan Adams' deathless power ballad '(Everything I Do) I Do It For You'.
Meanwhile, Robin Hood's motley crew of followers enjoyed a more prominent role in Maid Marian And Her Merry Men, a popular children's sitcom starring Tony Robinson and Danny John-Jules that ran on BBC One between 1989 and 1994.
