The action-packed promo sees Captain Kirk, played by Chris Pine, reprimanded for breaking Starfleet rules and the crew venturing underwater where they meet a sea monster. Last week it was announced JJ Abram's sci-fi sequel has been pushed forward to May 9, eight days earlier than planned.
The film reunites the Enterprise crew from Abrams' acclaimed 2009 reboot Star Trek, including Chris Pine's Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto's Spock and Simon Pegg's Scotty. Meanwhile, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has joined the cast as a mysterious villain.
Back in December (2012), director Abrams shed some light on Cumberbatch's character, saying: "His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an average. That is what makes him so scary – he is just an average guy who works in an organization called Starfleet, and he turns against the group because he has got this back-story and this kind of amazing secret agenda."
Exact plot details are being kept under wraps but the first nine minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness have been shown before IMAX screenings of The Hobbit. Click here for NME's rundown of everything we know about the film so far.
