The promotional campaign for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy is building up speed as the first film approaches. Subtitled An Unexpected Journey, it gets its worldwide premiere in Wellington, New Zealand on November 28. To celebrate the film's release, a series of The Hobbit commemorative coins are to become legal tender in New Zealand.

Last week (October 17), the first picture of Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins was released, alongside new photos of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Ian McKellen as Gandalf. The trilogy's cast also includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett and Orlando Bloom, while US comedian Stephen Colbert is rumoured to make a cameo in one of the films.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will open in UK cinemas on December 14 2012. Jackson's second film, The Desolation Of Smaug, will follow in December 2013, before the trilogy concludes with There And Back Again in July 2014.
