The two-minute teaser shows Steve Carell's Gru being taken away by the Anti-Villain League and tasked with catching a new baddie for them. The trailer also features the popular Minions from the first film and music from Eminem and indie favourites Cults.

Released in 2010, Despicable Me followed Gru, then a villain himself, as he hatched a plan to shrink and steal the Moon. The computer-animated comedy was a major success at the box office, grossing over $534 million (£336 million) worldwide.

The original's impressive voice cast also included Russell Brand, Kristen Wiig and Miranda Cosgrove, all of whom have returned for the sequel. Joining them are Al Pacino, who plays Gru's nemesis, and Steve Coogan, whose part has yet to be revealed.

Despicable Me 2 will be released in UK cinemas on June 28 next year, before opening in the US on July 3. The Minions will then star in their own spin-off movie, due in December 2014.
