The 3D computer-animated film follows an ordinary garden snail, voiced by Ryan Reynolds, who turns into an unlikely speed machine after he's sucked into the supercharger of a racing car. Following the freak accident, he finds he has many of the characteristics of a real racing car and hatches a plan to enter the world's biggest drag race: the Indy 500.
The voice cast also includes Samuel L Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Paul Giamatti, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Michelle Rodriguez and The Hangover's Ken Jeong, who plays a feisty female shopkeeper. Meanwhile, real-life racing champions Mario Andretti, Will Power and Dario Franchitti all make cameos.
Turbo is the first animated feature film directed by David Soren, who's previously helmed a couple of Madagascar spin-offs and worked as a story artist on DreamWorks favourites including Shrek and Shark Tale.
The film opens in US cinemas on July 19 before getting a UK release on October 18. It will be followed by a spin-off TV series, Turbo: FAST (Fast Action Stunt Team), which is set to premiere on Netflix in December.
