Patrick Stewart to return for next 'X-Men' movie?

Patrick Stewart has hinted that he could return to the X-Men film series.

The actor starred as Professor Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, in the first three X-Men movies, which came out between 2000 and 2006. The most recent instalment, 2011's X-Men: First Class, was a prequel in which James McAvoy played a younger version of Stewart's character.

Last month (August 2012), it was confirmed that the next film in the series will be called X Men: Days Of Future Past. Although it will pick up the action from the 2011 prequel, its script will be based on a comic book storyline that features a time travel element, leading to speculation that Stewart could appear alongside his younger self.

At the Montreal Comic Convention yesterday (September 26), Stewart was asked about playing Professor X again, and replied: "I think there is every possibility." He then reeled off a list of his female co-stars from the X-Men movies, including Halle Berry and Anna Paquin, before adding: "Yes, I'll be reprising."

X Men: Days Of Future Past is scheduled to begin filming next January (2013). It will be directed by Matthew Vaughn, who also helmed 2011's X Men: First Class, and is expected to focus on Michael Fassbender's villainous Magneto character. Fassbender, McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence are all confirmed to reprise their roles from the 2011 prequel.

Xavier was recently killed off in an Avengers Versus X-Men comic book storyline.
