Paul Giamatti in talks to play Rhino in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Paul Giamatti is currently in talks to play villain The Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the Marvel comics The Rhino is a Russian gangster who uses genetic manipulation and an armoured suit to give him super strength. Giamatti told ShowbizSpy back in 2011 that The Rhino was one of his favourite characters when he was a boy: "I thought The Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid."

He added: "I always thought, 'Why don't they have The Rhino in one of their movies.' But maybe The Rhino wasn't that big of a deal for anybody but me... If they ever go with The Rhino, I would be ready and waiting."

If a deal goes through Giamatti, who was most recently seen opposite Tom Cruise in Rock Of Ages, will join Jamie Foxx as the sequel's other bad guy Electro. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are also returning as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, and newcomers Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborne will join them.

Marc Webb is returning to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and is hoping to start production by February.

It's also been reported that Cemetery Junction's Felicity Jones is also in negotiations but for an unspecified role.
