Pete Capaldi reportedly based his look as the Doctor in the forthcoming series of Doctor Who on David Bowie.

A trailer for the next series of the BBC show aired this weekend (June 27) and shows Capaldi in the iconic role for the first time. Click below to watch now.

Speaking about his look, Capaldi is quoted as saying: "He's woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord."

Meanwhile, a source told the Daily Express how "[Peter] explained he drew inspiration for his Doctor Who look from his ‘scrapbook of ideas’. He thought Bowie was the perfect look."

Doctor Who returns to BBC1 in August. As previously reported, comedian Frank Skinner has also been cast in the show. Details of Skinner's character have yet to be revealed, but he will appear alongside Peter Capaldi in an episode being written by Jamie Mathieson.
