President Obama 'declares war' on film piracy
New strategic efforts revealed by White House report
US president Barack Obama announced yesterday (June 22) that his administration will conduct the first-ever strategic plan on intellectual property enforcement. The plan hopes to boost and better coordinate efforts to stop piracy at home and abroad.
A report released with the announcements includes strategies to enforce these efforts with the help of the FBI, the State Department, the Library Of Congress and many others.
A special task force will be created, boasting 20 FBI agents dedicated to fighting piracy, which deprives the American government of £570 billion in lost tax revenue every year.
"To state it very bluntly, piracy hurts," Vice President Joe Biden explained at a White House announcement. "It hurts our economy, our health and our safety."
