'Puss In Boots' tops the UK box office

Dreamworks' animated adventure takes nearly £2 million on opening weekend

Puss In Boots has topped the UK box office chart on its opening weekend.

The animated family movie from Dreamworks, which features voice stars Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Zach Galifianakis, beat off competition to claim the number one position, taking almost £2 million. You can watch a clip from it featuring Humpty Dumpty by clicking at the top of the page.

Aardman's festive animation Arthur Christmas drops to second place, while the all-star festive comedy New Year's Eve, featuring Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer debuts in third position.

The top five is completed by Martin Scorcese's Hugo and the dancing penguins of Happy Feet 2. New entries come from A Very Harold And Kumar 3D Christmas and Another Earth, which debut at eight and ten respectively.
