Report: New 'Gremlins' movie in the works

A new Gremlins movie could be on its way.

According to Vulture, Warner Bros Pictures is currently "negotiating" a reboot with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, the makers of the classic 1984 horror comedy.

However, Vulture's report also claims that previous Gremlins negotiations have failed because Spielberg's involvement has always been deemed too costly. Spielberg served as an executive producer on the original Gremlins film and would take a similar role on the reboot.

Directed by Joe Dante, 1984's Gremlins centres on a teenage boy who receives a strange furry creature called a "mogwai" as a Christmas present. When the boy fails to follow the care instructions, the creature multiplies, changes form and causes havoc all over town.

A more lighthearted sequel, Gremlins: The New Batch, followed in 1990. Over the years, Gremlins has also spawned video games, action figures and even its own breakfast cereal.
