Report: 'The Inbetweeners' cast sign up for movie sequel set in Australia
The second 'Inbetweeners' movie will apparently land in cinemas next summer (2014)
The cast of The Inbetweeners have reportedly signed up for a sequel, set in Australia.
Released in 2011, The Inbetweeners Movie followed the show's posse of hapless teenagers on an ill-fated holiday to Crete. It became the highest-grossing comedy film in UK box office history with takings of £45million.
Last August, the show's creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris revealed they were "developing an idea for a sequel" and by November they admitted they were "getting close".
According to The Sun, they have now drafted a script that takes the Inbetweeners crew on a backtracking trip around Australia and the four main cast members – Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas – have all signed on to reprise their roles. The sequel will reportedly arrive in cinemas next summer (2014).
A "source" is said to have told the tabloid: "The writers... have been knocking ideas around for a while and came up with something they thought would be good enough to maintain the high standards they have set. They never thought all the lads would be up for coming back so soon as they have become big stars in their own right. But when James [Buckley] said he was game the other week, everything seemed to click into place."
The Inbetweeners originally aired for three series on E4 between 2008 and 2010, and was voted Best TV show at the NME Awards in 2010. A US remake aired on MTV last year (2012) but got the axe after just one season.
