Ricky Gervais hints at David Brent spoof tour documentary

Comedian will return to 'The Office' character for live shows this year

Ricky Gervais hints at David Brent spoof tour documentary

Ricky Gervais has hinted that he may make a spoof tour documentary focusing on his forthcoming David Brent gigs.

Gervais played his debut live show as his character from The Office in October 2013, performing as David Brent & Foregone Conclusion, with a backing band that included former Razorlight member Andy Burrows. He is set reprise the character, who appeared as the hapless manager of paper company Wernham Hogg's Slough branch in BBC comedy The Office, for a further two shows in May this year.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Gervais suggested that he would be interested in bringing Brent back to television. "It's just an idea," he said. "I want to do a tour, a little tour and people think they're seeing a tour. I film it, but actually it's Brent who thinks he's making a Scorsese-type thing of On The Road."

He added: "Of course, behind the scenes, it is so much sadder and more poignant. It's Spinal Tap meets sad Scorsese meets Anvil. It's more of the breakdown of this man who thought he was going to be something else."

Ricky Gervais will play:

Oxford New Theatre (May 14)
London Hammersmith Apollo (16)
