Following yesterday's "trailer for the trailer", the first proper Deadpool trailer has been released.

The three-minute teaser features a generous helping of adult language and lots of gore and should definitely be considered NSFW (Not Safe For Work). "Ahhhh," Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool sighs after blowing the heads off two rivals. "I'm definitely touching myself tonight."

Ryan Reynolds first played Wade Wilson aka Deadpool, a Marvel Comics anti-hero famed for his wise-cracking personality and tendency to break the fourth wall, in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The cult character's long-awaited solo movie has been in the works since 2010.

Visual effects specialist Tim Miller, whose CV includes creating the opening sequence for 2013's Thor: The Dark World, is making his directorial debut from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the creators of US hoax-based comedy series The Joe Schmo Show. Miller began filming in late March in Vancouver, Canada, and Reynolds tweeted in late May that the shoot had wrapped.

The film's official plot synopsis teases: "Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humour, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life."

Deadpool will open in cinemas on February 12, 2016. Reynolds is flanked by a supporting cast that includes Haywire's Gina Carano, former Homeland actress Morena Baccarin and Silicon Valley star TJ Miller.
