Sacha Baron Cohen to spoof James Bond in new movie

Star sells a pitch for an untitled comedy film about a 'James Bond-like spy' who goes on the run

Sacha Baron Cohen is planning to poke fun at the James Bond franchise in a new movie.

According to Variety, Baron Cohen and screenwriter Phil Johnston have sold an untitled pitch for a comedy spy film to Paramount Pictures. The pitch is said to follow a "James Bond-like spy" as he goes on the run with his long-lost brother, described as a "moronic soccer hooligan".

Now that the pitch has been picked up, Baron Cohen will set to writing the screenplay with Johnston, who is best known for 2011 indie comedy Cedar Rapids. As Baron Cohen has starred in every previous film he has written, including Borat and Brüno, Variety predicts that he is lining himself up for the brother role.

Baron Cohen's most recent movie, The Dictator, was released in May 2012. He will next be seen alongside Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in the big screen adaptation of Les Miserables, which is due in December 2012. He is also attached to the long-mooted Freddie Mercury biopic that is currently in development.

The next Bond film, Skyfall, will open in cinemas in October 2012 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the franchise, which began with 1962's Dr No. Daniel Craig will make his third appearance as 007, while Javier Bardem will co-star as the film's main villain and Ben Whishaw will make his debut as Q.
