Sanjeev Bhaskar has become the latest actor confirmed to appear in the forthcoming series of Doctor Who.

Details of Bhaskar's character have not yet been disclosed but he will appear in the series finale. "I'm thrilled to have made a small contribution to and now be part of the Doctor Who universe," he said. "Another dream box ticked!"

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, added: "I'm completely thrilled that Sanjeev Bhaskar is coming to the aid of the Doctor. The danger is never deadlier than in a finale episode, and the Time Lord is going to need all the help he can get!"

Doctor Who returns to BBC 1 on August 23. As previously reported, comedian Frank Skinner has been cast in the show. Pop star Foxes will also appear in one episode while Jenna Coleman is returning as the Doctor's assistant, Clara Oswald.
