Satirical Britpop novel 'Kill Your Friends' to be made into a movie

John Niven's 2008 novel Kill Your Friends is set to be turned into a film starring Rafe Spall.

Spall (Prometheus, Life of Pi) will star as murderous lead character and A&R man Steven Stelfox in the adaptation of the best-selling book, writes Hollywood Reporter.

Former A&R man Niven's novel is based on his own experiences in the British music industry in the 1990s. Robert Pattinson had previously expressed an interest in playing the lead role in a possible adaptation of Niven's first novel.

Owen Harris will direct the film, whilst Gregor Cameron will produce. Harris directed the BBC's Holy Flying Circus which was about the response to Monty Python's movie The Life of Brian and Cameron's comedy credits include Katy Brand's Big Ass Show.

The film will start shooting next year and is set for release in 2014.
