Scarlett Johansson has announced her directorial debut with Summer Crossing.

The Avengers actress will lead the adaptation of the novella by Breakfast At Tiffany's writer Truman Capote.

Summer Crossing was written in the 1940s, but abandoned by an unsatisfied Capote and apparently destroyed, according to Variety. It was discovered over 50 years later and finally published in 2005.

It tells the story of an 18-year-old girl living in post-World War II New York who breaks free of her respectable family to discover her own identity and sexuality.

Barry Spikings, who won an Oscar for The Deer Hunter is attached as producer, while the screenplay is being adapted by Tristine Skyler.

Johansson will reprise her role as Black Widow in The Avengers next year. She can next be seen opposite Matt Damon in We Bought A Zoo, the trailer for which you can watch at the bottom of the page.
