Shiloh Fernandez announced for 'Evil Dead' reboot

'Red Riding Hood' star in line for one of two possible male leads

Shiloh Fernandez announced for 'Evil Dead' reboot

Shiloh Fernandez has been announced as the lead in the forthcoming Evil Dead reboot.

Lily Collins, who will be seen in Snow White later this year, was lined up for the top role, but had to withdraw due to scheduling. Although not a straight re-cast, Fernandez will take on the main role in the film, and it's not yet known whether he'll playing the same part of Bruce Campbell in the iconic originals, or reivnventing it completely.

Fernandez previously appeared as Peter in last year's Red Riding Hood.

The story for the reimagined franchise is thought to focus on a group of five youngsters, who take a trip to a secluded cabin when one of their number (the character earmarked for Lily Collins) decides she needs some time out to recover from a drug problem.

The two male roles on offer for Fernandez and David and Eric. The first is a mechanic who’s engaged to one of the girls in the group, while the second is a mechanic and responsible for triggering the Necronomicon’s terrible powers. The latter seems a more likely fit.

Directed by Fede Alvarez from a script co-written by Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody, The Evil Dead will open in US cinemas on April 12, 2013, with a UK date yet to be confirmed.
