'Sin City 2' is officially in pre-production
Director announces that casting will begin next week
After years of rumours and speculation, the sequel to 2005's cult hit Sin City is finally moving into production. This weekend saw an announcement by director Robert Rodriguez confirming the rumours that the sequel, entitled A Dame To Kill For, will begin production this Summer at his Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.
In the statement Rodriguez said:
I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations.
He concluded, “A Dame To Kill For will certainly be worth the wait". The director also confirmed that casting will begin next week.
While no word has been announced as to who will return from the original film, names as varied as Angelina Jolie and Rachel Weisz have been thrown up as potential new additions to Frank Miller's world.
The episodic structure of the graphic novels also allows for characters that met an untimely demise in the first film to reappear in the second.
Robert Rodriguez and company are currently shooting Machete Kills, the sequel to the Mexican action thriller Machete.
