Spoof rock star Brian Pern gets a second series after ‘The Life Of Rock’
Simon Day’s rockumentary moves to BBC Two from BBC Four for ‘Rock Apocalypse With Brian Pern’
The next series will be screened by BBC Two in 2015 and has the working title Rock Apocalypse With Brian Pern. It will focus on Pern’s attempts to make a Christmas single, launch a festival and write a musical.
The first series co-starred Paul Whitehouse as Pat Quid, guitarist with Pern’s old band Thotch; Nigel Havers as Thotch bassist Tony Pebble; Al Murray as their drummer Eddie Mount; and Michael Kitchen as Pern’s manager John Farrow. It also featured a cameo by Peter Gabriel, who ageing rocker Pern is partly based on. “Peter loves the show,” Day told Radio Times. “When you meet him, he’s a really nice guy, not a pompous twat.” Day said other real-life musicians are likely to appear in the second series, after Phil Collins and Rick Wakeman appeared in the first run.
Day featured in a series of new sketches by The Fast Show broadcast online in 2012, which are expected to be shown shortly as part of BBC Two’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Co-creator Charlie Higson said in November 2013 that he and Whitehouse were considering making more episodes to mark the show’s 20th anniversary this year.
