'Starship Troopers' looks set to be rebooted

1997 Sci-fi flick is facing a remake under 'Thor' and 'X Men: First Class' writers

Sci-fi flick Starship Troopers looks set to be remade.

The 1997 Paul Verhoeven film is being rebooted by Sony Pictures producer Neal Moritz, reports Vulture.

Moritz has assigned the script to screenwriters Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz, who wrote Thor and X-Men: First Class, as well as many episodes of the TV shows Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Fringe.

They are also working on a Top Gun sequel.

The reboot follows plans to remake Verhoeven's other two action films Robocop and Total Recall, which are currently in production.

Jose Padilha, who is directing the former, recently said that his film will fill a gap left in the original.

He added:

I have my take on it. And I can tell you this: In the first RoboCop when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts.

Padilha has reportedly been after Michael Fassbender to take on the lead role.
