Steven Spielberg is to produce a TV show based on the incredibly popular Halo video games.
The Halo gaming franchise centres on an interstellar war between the human race and an alliance of aliens united by religion known as "the Covenant". Since their launch in 2001, the games have sold over 50 million copies worldwide and grossed almost $3.4 billion (£2.2 billion).
Spielberg's adaptation was announced yesterday (May 21) during the launch of the new Xbox One console, Variety reports. It's being billed as a "premium" live action series and will be exclusive to Xbox Live.
Spielberg will collaborate with the game's makers 343 Studios on the development of the series, but no further details have been released yet.
Although best known as a film director, Spielberg has served as a producer or executive producer on numerous TV shows over the years, including ER and Band Of Brothers. His recent small screen projects have been less successful though, with Terra Nova, The River and Smash all being cancelled after brief runs.
