'Ted 2' and new 'Bourne' sequel confirmed by Universal Pictures

And another 'American Pie' movie could be in the works too

'Ted 2' and new 'Bourne' sequel confirmed by Universal Pictures

Universal Pictures is planning a sequel to Ted and a fifth Bourne film, Deadline has reported.

Speaking at an entertainment industry conference in Beverly Hills yesterday (September 13), CEO Steve Burke revealed that Universal plans to build "as many franchises as we can". In addition to Ted and Bourne sequels, he also suggested that another American Pie movie is being mooted, saying that the franchise has now been "dusted off".

Continuing, Burke expressed an intention to grow animated movie Despicable Me into an ongoing series and push forward with the Fast And Furious franchise. Fast And Furious 6 began shooting in July (2012) and is scheduled for release next May (2013).

Ted, an R-rated comedy about a stuffed bear that comes to life and falls into a debauched lifestyle, was a surprise smash for Universal earlier this year (2012), grossing $395 million (£244 million) worldwide from an estimated budget of $50 million (£31 million). Speaking yesterday, Burke said: "We'd like to see a Ted 2 as soon as we can."

The Bourne Legacy, the first in the series not to star Matt Damon, was released last month (August) and has performed more modestly so far. Nevertheless, Burke confirmed that fans will "see future Bourne films." Franchise producer Frank Marshall has previously revealed that he wants Damon to team up with new Bourne star Jeremy Renner for the next sequel.
