'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' casts Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn

Dane DeHaan is to play Harry Osborn in the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man.

Director Marc Webb took to Twitter last night (December 3) to make the announcement. He posted:

DeHaan is best known as the star of sleeper sci-fi hit Chronicle and for his role as Jesse D'Amato in HBO's In Treatment. The role of Harry Osborn, Peter Parker's best friend, was previously played by James Franco in three Spider-Man movies between 2002 and 2007.

Following Webb's tweet, a Columbia Pictures press release confirmed that DeHaan has joined the cast alongside Jamie Foxx and The Descendants star Shailene Woodley. Foxx has previously been tipped to play a villain called Electro, while Woodley is rumoured to be appearing as Mary Jane Watson.

Meanwhile, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are back as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. Since its release this July (2012), The Amazing Spider-Man has taken over $751 million (£466 million) at the box office worldwide.

The sequel, which has no official title yet, is due to start shooting early next year (2013) in New York. Columbia has scheduled its release for May 2, 2014.
