'The Crystal Maze' to return with David Tennant as host?

90s game show set for Channel 4 revival in October

Classic 90s game show The Crystal Maze looks like it could be set to return - with former Doctor Who star David Tennant as host.

The Channel 4 show originally ran for 83 episodes between 1990 and 1995, with the first four series hosted by Richard O'Brien, creator of The Rocky Horror Show, and the final two steered by Tenpole Tudor frontman Edward Tudor-Pole.

The Sun now reports that the show will be revived for a celebrity special during Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer charity programming series in October. A full series could follow.

The paper claims that Tennant is wanted for the role of host, with a source telling the publication: "Even two decades after it last aired, there are very few shows that have been as magical and action-packed as The Crystal Maze. It is still remembered extremely fondly today."

"Channel 4 are hoping to tap into that nostalgia and believe viewers will jump at the chance to finally take on the show’s adventurous challenges themselves."

Channel 4 have not yet officially commented on the reports.

A live immersive version of the game show opened in London earlier this year. See how the NME team did here.
