'The Dark Knight Rises': Gary Oldman hints that Christopher Nolan could return

New Batman movie may not be the acclaimed director's final outing after all

Batman actor Gary Oldman hinted that director Christopher Nolan could return to the series after The Dark Knight Rises.

Nolan has previously stated that his third outing with the caped crusader will be his last.

r /> But speaking at the Empire Awards last night (March 27) Oldman, who plays Commissioner Jim Gordon in the films, said that might not turn out to be the case.

He told Digitalspy.co.uk: "Chris is always negotiating so when he says that [he won’t come back], I don’t know. But he kind of brings The Dark Knight Rises round to Batman Begins - it's a really thrilling story, it would have to be to top The Dark Knight."

The Dark Knight Rises is due for release in 2012. Christian Bale returns as Batman, with Anne Hathaway confirmed to play Catwoman. Oldman was named 'Empire Icon' last night.
