Rooney Mara, the actress set to play the iconic Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, is being sought after for Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy. As reported by Twitch - who correctly announced the casting of Brolin and choice of Spike Lee - the actress is being considered for the role of Marie.

In the original film, Marie (then named Mi-do) became the object of affection for the lead protagonist who was imprisoned for 15 years for unknown reasons.

Josh Brolin is set to play the lead character of Oh Dae-su. His English language name has yet be be revealed.

Mara, who starred in The Social Network for David Fincher, was said to have beaten many of the biggest names in Hollywood to claim the role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Her inclusion in the Oldboy production may rely heavily on the success of the first in a reported trilogy of the Millenium books. If a hit, the potential sequels could see her film slate filled very quickly.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is released in the UK on December 26.
