'The Inbetweeners' star reveals he fluffed audition for 'Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa'
James Buckley says he was 'v nervous' when he read the script and failed to land the part
The Inbetweeners star James Buckley has revealed that he auditioned for a role in Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.
Sadly, the actor - who plays foul-mouthed Jay Cartwright in the E4 sitcom - failed to land the part because nerves got the better of him. Buckley shared his embarrassment on Twitter on Wednesday (August 14) shortly before going to see the film.
i read for a part in AlphaPapa. Embarrassingly Im such a Coogan geek i was literally star struck of the script. Was V nervous, I wasn't cast— James Buckley (@James_Buckley) August 14, 2013
Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, whose cast includes Colm Meaney, Anna Maxwell Martin and Sean Pertwee as well as Steve Coogan, opened in cinemas last Friday (August 9) and topped the UK box office after taking an impressive £2.18 million over its extending opening weekend.
Meanwhile, Buckley is set to reunite with co-stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison for the sequel to The Inbetweeners Movie, which has recently been confirmed by the show's creators. They're targeting an August 2014 release date.
Released in 2011, The Inbetweeners Movie became the highest-grossing comedy film in UK box office history with takings of £45 million. The Inbetweeners originally ran for three series on E4 between 2008 and 2010, and was voted Best TV Show at the NME Awards in 2010. A US remake aired on MTV last year (2012) but got the axe after just one season.
