'The Wire' actor Michael B Jordan confirms he has auditioned for 'Star Wars'

The Wire's Michael B Jordan has revealed he is in the running for a role in the new Star Wars movie.

Atonement actress Saoirse Ronan recently told Empire that she has "gone in to read" for a role in Star Wars: Episode VII, before adding: "And so has everyone else. Anyone could get it."

Now Jordan has told The Huffington Post that he too has auditioned for an unspecified part. Jordan, who is set to star alongside Sylvester Stallone in a forthcoming Rocky spin-off, and has also been inked to Independence Day 2 and the planned Fantastic Four reboot, said of Star Wars: "I mean, everybody's going in on this project. They're trying to figure out what they want. That's another incredible franchise. It's pretty crazy!... We'll see how it happens. I don't know how I can do everything."

Director JJ Abrams is due to start shooting Star Wars: Episode VII in the UK early next year (2014) from a script by Toy Story III writer Michael Arndt. The eagerly-anticipated film remains shrouded in secrecy as no plot details are currently known and the cast has yet to be confirmed.

Harrison Ford and fellow original stars Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are all expected to be reprising their roles, though Ford claimed he has "not quite made the choice" during an interview on The Graham Norton Show on Friday night (October 11).

Benedict Cumberbatch, who worked with Abrams on this year's Star Trek Into Darkness, has recently been linked to the movie too. Meanwhile, an earlier report claimed that Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron are both in the running for roles.
