Thomas Jane: 'I worked as a gay prostitute to get by in Hollywood'
Star of 'Hung' reveals ways he made money as a homeless man in LA
Thomas Jane has admitted he worked as a gay prostitute when he first moved to Hollywood.
The actor, who plays gigolo Ray Drecker in HBO hit series Hung, revealed he used to sleep in his car when he first arrived in the city and had no money, but could think of ways to earn some.
He told the LA Times: "I was 18. I wasn't averse to going down to Santa Monica Boulevard and letting a guy buy me a sandwich. Know what I mean?
"You grow up as an artist in a big city, as James Dean said, you're going to have one arm tied behind your back if you don't accept people's sexual flavours."
He added that, although ultimately straight, he had been open to trying new things with other men.
"You're a lot more open to experimentation as a young man. And for me, being a young artist and broke in Los Angeles, I was exploring my sexual identity."
The actor stars alongside Miley Cyrus in the upcoming film LOL: Lauging Out Loud, and was previously married to Patricia Arquette.
Hung's third season began in the US on October 2.
