'Thor 2' gives expanded role to '2 Broke Girls' star Kat Dennings
Actress will reprise her comic relief role from 'Thor', but with greater screen time second time out
Kat Dennings has become the last key member of the Thor cast to sign up for the sequel.
In the first Thor film, Dennings offers comic relief as Darcy Lewis, a hapless co-worker of Natalie Portman's character Dr Jane Foster. The role is relatively small, but according to Deadline, it will be "expanded" for the upcoming sequel. Dennings's profile has risen over the last 12 months thanks to her starring role in hit US sitcom 2 Broke Girls.
The original Thor film, starring Chris Hemsworth as the titular Norse warrior, opened in cinemas in May 2011 and has since grossed $450 million (£290 million) worldwide. The sequel is scheduled for release on November 8, 2013.
Thor director Kenneth Branagh will not return for the sequel, which will instead be helmed by Alan Taylor, who has worked on Game Of Thrones. Hemsworth will be back in the title role, while Portman will return as his love interest. Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins and Stellan Skarsgård are also contracted for the sequel.
Earlier this month (August 2), it was reported that former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston was "in final negotiations" to appear in the sequel. His casting has now been confirmed and he will play a villain called Malekith The Accursed.
2 Broke Girls, in which Dennings and Beth Behrs star as a pair of entrepreneurial waitresses working in a Brooklyn diner, will return for its second season on US network CBS this autumn. The first season aired in the UK earlier this year on Channel 4 and E4.
