Tom Cruise has confirmed that Christopher McQuarrie has been hired to direct Mission: Impossible 5.
Cruise signed a deal to star in and produce the action sequel this May (2013). At the time, McQuarrie was said to be in the frame to direct, but Cruise has now used Twitter to announce that he is fully on board.
McQuarrie recently wrote and directed Jack Reacher, an action thriller starring Cruise that came out last December (2012). He'll direct M:I5 from a script by Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce, and shooting is expected to take place next year for a 2015 release.
Cruise first appeared as elite secret agent Ethan Hunt in 1996's Mission: Impossible and has reprised the role in three sequels. The most recent instalment, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, came out in 2011 and grossed nearly $700 million (£450 million) at the box office worldwide - the highest total of Cruise's career.
