Tom Hardy has signed up to star in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.
The Dark Knight Rises actor will play Sam Fisher, a specially-trained operative on a black-ops mission, in Ubisoft's film adaptation of its popular game, which will be written by Eric Warren Singer (The International), reports Variety.
The film is the second major movie based on a Ubisoft game to be green-lit for production after Assassin's Creed was picked up by New Regency and Fox. The film will star Michael Fassbender, who will also produce.
On signing up Brady to appear in the film, Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures said: "Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills.
He added: "His involvement in the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and we're confident he'll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans."
Meanwhile, Hardy is currently filming Mad Max: Fury Road in Namibia. His most recent film, gangster flick Lawless, came out in September (2012). He also starred as the villainous Bane in this year's The Dark Knight Rises, which is due out on Blu-Ray on December 3.
