'Transformers 4' to cast actors through Chinese reality TV show
The Michael Bay movie, starring Mark Wahlberg, will be partially shot in China
Transformers 4 will cast acting roles through a Chinese reality TV show, it has been revealed.
Michael Bay's latest film in the franchise is the first Hollywood movie to be a Chinese co-production, with some of the movie scheduled to be shot in China, and now Paramount Pictures has announced that four roles are up for grabs via a reality TV show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The show is set to begin broadcasting in China in June 2013 with a panel of judges comprising of Sid Ganis, the former head of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and the current chairman of Jiaflix, the film's producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura, casting director Denise Chamian and Paramount's marketing and distribution chief Megan Colligan.
The four winners will be made up of two with professional acting experience and two amateurs. Producers have said that the winning contestants will join "a number of talented Chinese actors and actresses" in Transformers 4.
Last month (March), the first plot synopsis for Transformers 4 was released. A press release confirmed that the new movie "opens soon after the end of [last instalment] Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, where a great battle left a city torn - but with the world once again saved".
Director Michael Bay has previously confirmed that Mark Wahlberg has signed on to star in Transformers 4 after Shia LaBeouf declined to reprise his role from the previous films. Wahlberg has recently promised the new movie will be "very different from the other three".
Meanwhile, Bay has revealed that Transformers 4 will be the start of a new trilogy and announced that Wahlberg's co-star will be Jack Reynor, a virtually unknown 21-year-old actor from Ireland. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on June 27, 2014.
