'Transformers: Dark Of The Moon' smashes UK box office competition

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon has smashed all competition at the UK box office this week.

The robot sequel, the third movie in the franchise, took in a mammoth £10,728,503 on its opening weekend, easily beating last week’s Number One Bridesmaids, which nevertheless maintained a healthy second-week figure of £2,007,171.

The top five is completed by Kung Fu Panda 2, Cameron Diaz vehicle Bad Teacher and Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks drama Larry Crowne.

Transformers has outperformed both of its predecessors, with the original film from 2007 taking £8.7 million and its 2009 sequel Revenge Of The Fallen taking £8.4 million.
