'Twilight' spoof 'Vampires Suck' watched online 100,000 times after leak
Fans watch comedy parody online ahead of official release
An unfinished version of the Twilight spoof Vampires Suck has been downloaded more than 100,000 times since leaking online over a month ago. Directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the comedy stars Jenn Proske, Matt Lanter and Diedrich Bader.
Released in the US on Wednesday, this isn’t the first time 20th Century Fox has been hit with leaks, says The Hollywoodreporter.com.
Fox’s 2004 parody Soul Plane was one of the first Hollywood films to fall victim of digital piracy. More recently a rough cut of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was leaked online a month before the premiere, getting over one million views.
Universal studios’ Hulk and American Gangster also leaked online weeks before their release dates and Paramount’s Iron Man 2 hit the net four days before cinema screenings began.
Fox, who are behind Vampires Suck, have sent out take down requests to torrent sites hosting the footage and to Google in an attempt to prevent users from finding the footage.
Vampires Suck is a spoof based on the huge box office hit and Stephenie Meyer novel, the The Twilight Saga.
