'Twilight' star Kristen Stewart to star in new indie movie

Actress reportedly cast in 'Lie Down In Darkness', an adaptation of an acclaimed 1950s novel

'Twilight' star Kristen Stewart to star in new indie movie

Kristen Stewart has reportedly been cast in upcoming indie film Lie Down In Darkness.

According to Vulture, the Twilight actress will star as Peyton Loftis, a young woman struggling to deal with the disintegration of her dysfunctional family in 1950s Virginia. The film is an adaptation of an acclaimed 1951 novel by William Styron, also called Lie Down In Darkness.

Actress Jennifer Lawrence had previously expressed her interest in the role, but her busy schedule shooting the new X-Men and Hunger Games sequels is believed to have counted her out. In June, it was revealed that Stewart was the highest-paid actress in Hollywood over the last 12 months.

Lie Down In Darkness will be directed by Scott Cooper, best known for 2009 Jeff Bridges drama Crazy Heart, and produced by experienced hand Jeff Sharp, who has credits on Boys Don't Cry, You Can Count On Me and Proof. Stewart's co-stars have yet to be revealed and it is not known when the film will go into production.

Stewart, 22, has several films coming up for release, including Jack Kerouac adaptation On The Road and the final part in the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn - Part 2, which is due in November (2012). Last week (July 26), the actress hit the headlines after she confessed to cheating on her boyfriend and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson with a film director.
