Krysten Ritter has joined the cast of the Veronica Mars movie.

Ritter played Gia Goodwin in eight episodes of the cult US TV show between 2005-6 and has since appeared in Breaking Bad, as Jesse's ill-fated girlfriend Jane Margolis, and her own sitcom Don't Trust The Bitch In Apartment 23, which was axed earlier this year.

"G-G-G-Gia!!!! I'm thrilled to be reprising my role of Gia Goodman in the Veronica Mars movie!!! " Ritter wrote on Twitter on Friday (June 14). "It's gonna be very juicy. Veronica Mars has a special place in my heart because it was my first big acting job (!!!!!!) and it was also one of the most lovely on-set experiences you could ever ask for."

Ritter went on to enthuse about "the revolutionary way this all was able to come to life". Created by Rob Thomas, the original Veronica Mars TV series starred Kristen Bell as a high school student who moonlights as a private investigator.

After the show was cancelled at the end of its third season in 2006, Thomas wrote a script for a full-length Veronica Mars movie but was unable to secure funding. However, the idea of reviving the show for a one-off film refused to die and this March (2013) Bell and Thomas teamed up to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise the $2 million (£1.3 million) production budget.

The campaign ended up raising over $5.7 million (£3.7 million) and shooting on the movie is due to begin today (June 17). Alongside Bell and Ritter, a raft of original Veronica Mars cast members including Chris Lowell, Sam Huntington, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III and Logan Echolls are all confirmed to return.
