Channing Tatum will play the character of Gambit in future X Men films, it has been confirmed.
Producer Lauren Shuler Donner has confirmed that the 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike actor will appear in the role for future movies, with a stand alone Gambit film also rumoured.
Confirming the casting to Total Film, Donner backed the actor to inhabit the character of Gambit. "He's a rogue, he's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau," she said. "He can handle the action, as we know, and he's got a real good heart, I know him personally."
She added: "He'll be great for Gambit, and he's a southerner too, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans."
Meanwhile, Tatum will not appear in X-Men: Days Of Future Past which is directed by Brian Singer and will be released on May 22 in the UK.
Singer, who also produced and wrote 2011's First Class, has assembled an all-star cast for the film with Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, James MacAvy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin and Ellen Page all confirmed to appear.
