The rock n'roll status of this university town was dealt a hammer blow recently when local 'luminaries' Hamfatter made a headline-grabbing appearance on 'Dragon's Den'. Happily, there are many far better bands to be found among Cambridge's genteel streets, not least The Vichy Government, the black-humoured, Casio-monologue duo affiliated with the New Cross scene but residing here.
Alumni: Nick Drake, Pink Floyd
Pub fact: Hot Chip's Alex Taylor studied in Cambridge. Back then he specialised in acoustic numbers that sounded like “Nick Drake having a sulky day”.
