Released: April 1951

Its position in history has become murky, but 'Rocket 88' has a fair claim to be the first rock'n'roll record – and it was credited to a group that barely existed. Written and arranged by one Ike Turner, who turns in the rolling piano too, it was released on Chicago blues label Chess with singer Jackie Brenston taking all the glory and publishing cash.
