Demetra

'Demetra's brand of garage rock combines a trashy guitar sound and soulful vocals with smatterings of country, doo-op, hip-hop and reggae. Their song topics cover everything from cowgirls to alien invasions to addictions.'

About The Band

Three guys and a girl from Queens with a lot of spunk form the anomaly that is Demetra. Trashy guitars and hard-hitting, danceable beats infused with soulful vocals and pop melodies create a distinctive sound only vaguely reminiscent of artists such as Blondie, No Doubt, and The Clash.

Definite products of the new millennium, they are not afraid to experiment with song form. Though their music is heavily drenched in garage rock and new wave roots, they may add a chorus that contains elements of doo-op, an outro that breaks down into one-drop reggae, or a bridge that busts out into a rhyme. Similar to the artists mentioned above, they are not afraid to take risks and have fun with their music and in the end deliver songs that stick in your head and are definably Demetra.

The band members share these things in common: an aversion to authority, a penchant for excessive living, a love of science fiction, a passion for fashion, and a strange fascination with cowgirls and cowboys. They also tend to lay their hearts on the line. This is all reflected in their new self-titled CD just released in March 2007.

Over the last seven months, they have played at venues such as The Knitting Factory, Sin-e, Arlenes Grocery, and the Trash Bar to steadily increasing audiences. Above all else, Demetra is an amazing live act that consistently delivers energy-filled performances. Their last show at The Knitting Factory was sold out, and they are expected to play some prestigious venues in the near future.

Beam Me Up Scotty is about aliens landing on Planet Earth. After finding the general population in an Orwellian state, they decide to head back home. Earthlings, please do not take offense.
