About The Band

The Unknown were formed in May 2006 with the joining of three former members of Dundee band "Denver" and one former member of Dundee band "Lego Porn" along with two other established Dundee musicians. Mike Morgan (vocals) Paul Wyllie (guitar and backing vocals) and Ross Kirk (piano/organ) have been life long friends and have been writing and composing music together since the age of 18 years old. Mike Paul and Ross have tried with varying degrees of success over the years to put together a group of established musicians best suited to the alternative, edgy and emotive music style in which they have composed many songs over the last seven years. With the addition of lead guitarist John Mill (coincidentally an old school friend of Mike) Bassist Dave Mc Dermott ( a work mate of Ross) and Drummer Melanie Burn, an established drum tutor, the Unknown have grown to be an extremely competent musical unit. Although not trying to sound like any particular act the Unknown have been compared to many acts both past and present in an extremely complimentary manner. With Mike's lyrics and the bands musical influences and composition skills, The Unknown's music has an exciting, edgy and often haunting sound which we hope is enjoyed and embraced by the listener...... LATEST GIG REVEIW -

THE UNKNOWN - Westport Bar, Dundee 16-02-07

The Unknown were just what the evening required. That they began with their traditional set opener which mixed a seventies American blues-rock feel with some seriously tasty playing and, as with The Hoffs, a vocal performance that really hit the spot, got things off to a class and driving start. They really do, also, have a completely individual sound and approach, with organ and electric piano an outanding stand-out, while their mixture of blues, ballad, crusing arrangements and solid playing in songs that really capture the feel and flavour of an evening of dancing splendour, sets them apart. Through a solid set that included a couple of rhe best versions of a couple of their most rocking tracks which really caught fire, the ever mesmerising taste of their slower tracks and that superb set closer that seemed to mix all their elements into one steaming melting pot of a song, all added to another excellent performance from a class band, but also an unclassifiable band, something that time will tell how difficult it will be for them to cross over to mass acceptance and adulation - for now, it works and it's enjoyable - trust me!
