Tupac Shakur will feature as a character in the forthcoming NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.

Earlier this week, Ice Cube posted a photo of the rap icon to Instagram on what would have been his 44th birthday, confirmed they were shooting a scene involving Shakur. As pointed out by Entertainment Weekly, actor Marc Rose will play the role, joining versions of the five original group members, as well as Snoop Dogg, Warren G and Suge Knight.

Rose himself revealed a side-by-side image of him and Pac earlier this year. Though he didn't mention his appearance in the film directly, he did caption the photo: "Throwback to a few months ago when I had the flattop. This side by side photo of Tupac and I went viral on the internet, and was the cause of so many great things! The power of social media."

Straight Outta Compton stars Marcus Callender as Dr Dre, Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson Jr as his father, Jason Mitchell as the late Eazy-E, Aldis Hodge as MC Ren and Neil Brown Jr as DJ Yella. Earlier this month a trailer was released that omitted the later two, causing Ren to take to Twitter to vent his frustration.

"Man fuck these bitches at universal pictures leaving me out the movie trailers tryin to rewrite history," he wrote. "When you have bitches work on a hip hop film that don't know shit about hip hop this is what happens. How the hell u leave me out after all. The work I put into them records. It's disrespectful to me, my family and most of all my FANS."

Cube has previously revealed plans for an NWA live reunion at the film's premiere at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on June 27. There has been no confirmation as to whether Dre will be involved yet. If he is, it will be the first time that all four surviving members have performed together in 27 years.

Straight Outta Compton is set to be released in the UK on August 28.
