The amount of punters at the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival who used shuttle buses to get to the site went up by 30 per cent from 2006.

The figures suggest an increasing trend of using public transport to get to the event.

The shuttle buses were running from Leeds train station to the festival site, suggesting more festivalgoers used trains instead of cars, compared to last year.

Festival Republic, who organised the August Bank Holiday weekend bash, had put on more shuttle buses to try and encourage punters to travel by public transport to cut down carbon emissions from car journeys.

The only reason it wen up by 30% is because when they sold out of normal tickets they ony had coach tickets left so people were forced to buy them. And in some cases this meant travelling a long distance to get to the pick up point so they could collect their tickets. Therefore it did not reduce carbon emissions at all...
