Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant calls Radiohead crap – Tabloid Hell

Rocker takes control of the jukebox while boozing…

Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant labelled Radiohead “crap” while out drinking in north London at the weekend, according to The Sun’s Buzarre column.

According to the paper, Plant was drinking with a woman and demanded that the music playing in the pub was changed.

Apparently Plant described Radiohead as “rhyming crap”, and also rubbished Red Hot Chili Peppers (whose music he likened to a nursery rhyme) before settling on Captain Beefheart.

well jonny greenwood is a better guitarist than led zepps and also thom yorke is a better vocalist than robert plant. plus they have made the three best albums of all time (OKC, Kid A and IR) so its quite cheeky for anyone to slate them

tommymack

Jan 22, 2008

Yes, that cheeky young upstart, Plant, how dare he slate the almighty 'head...no flies on you binstig, you cloth eared twerp...

Jan 22, 2008

firstly pagey is infinetly better then jonny greenwood, you cant compare the two.also theres no way radiohead could get into the top 3 best albums of all time, ever.they'r good but they aint that good. also robert plant co wrote stairway to heaven so he can call any band he wants crap-dosent mean its true though. i completely agree with wat he said about the chillys.respect.

Id say IF it is true he said those comments about radiohead, its either a publicity stunt (New album just out - column inches) or just a drunken comment made without thought. But Ouch!

well said binstig, just cause plant has past his time. He is nothing without the others. he should sit back in his chair and shut up

Jan 22, 2008

Binstig, do you mean Jimmy Page? If so, please listen to him. Greenwood will sound like a 13 year old who has just learnt a c chord on his Argos Acoustic.

Seems like Mr. Plant is jealous that there actually is a band that managed to top them.

I really enjoyed seeing Led Zeppelin at Knebworth in 1979 but Radiohead, Muse & Bowie all put them firmly in the shade both live and in the studio. 'Paranoid Android' & 'Knight of Cydonia' widdle on Stairway to Heaven.

hee greenwood better than led zeps guitarist is a ridiculous statement .......the yorke comment i agree with though ..................don,t believe all you read in the papers .they sometimes are liberal with the truth to say the least ...........

radiohead are shit!!!

Jan 22, 2008

Jonny Greenwood better than Jimmy Page?. I dont think so!.Thom Yorke a better vocalist than Plant?. I think he sounds like a miserable bag of wind. As for the claim that they made The thre best albums of All time that has to be a joke. Lets look at Zeppelins track record. 300 million albums sold and still selling!.

jkap123

Jan 22, 2008

robert plant is a dick. he obviously feels threatened by younger bands who are more popular than him.

led zeppelin could easily be described as "whining crap." everything by led zeppelin sounds the same anyway. at least radiohead is interested in change.

Sounds perfectly fair and reasonable to me...especially about the RHCPs....

Hats off to Robert Plant...can't stand either fu^kin' band. Saw Chilli's at fiddler's green in Colorado, after Stone Temple Pilots played, I was so bored with all their commercialized, tap the pop, sell-out B.S. Sick of hearing how great Radio-head is....starting to wonder if people dig this lame rock-n-roll shiete cause there isn't anything else out there....

Jan 22, 2008

Yeah, you sound a little too fanboy.

Let's be honest, Johnny's not better than Jimmy, and Thom and Plant are in two extremely different classes of vocalist. Thom is more ambiance and treats his voice like an instrument with less focus on pronunciation and more on creating a sound; Plant has power, and can make your testosterone levels sky rocket just by listening to him.

While I love Radiohead, they're my favorite band, and RHCP is great as well, Plant can hate whatever the hell he wants.

Besides, he was DRUNK.

Jan 22, 2008

Led Zepp and Radiohead both suck equally. Neither band has made a great album.

..I thought Plant is in the US getting ready for his tour with Alison Krauss?? sounds like misery milker TabCrap.

Jan 22, 2008

Well binstig, you have just give me a good laugh. Jonny who??? I listened to radiohead once, and I have got to say Plant is spot on!!! They are Crap!!!

Zeppelin91

Jan 22, 2008

I think it's true what he says. Red hot chili peppers is a crappy band, and so is a lot of the bands today. Radiohead is not that bad, but it can't be compared to the bands of the 60's and 70's.

Escamotage

Jan 22, 2008

binstig,

Are you from the twilight zone? Only some smug RH fanboy with no knowledge of music history would make a statement as backwards as that.

rollingstone2288

Jan 22, 2008

better guitarist? better vocalist? best albums of all time? im not even a huge fan of led zeppelin but id take them anyday over radiohead, todays most boring hit band. whoa, way to "shake up" the industry with your rainbows album, groundbreaking stuff

jackmac178

Jan 22, 2008

although i am a very big radiohead fan, it is also a stupid comment to say jonny greewood is a better guitarist than jimmy page!

ArnoldLayne

Jan 22, 2008

I have to agree with Robert Plant, after the musical masterpiece that was The Bends, Radiohead proceeded to shy away from the challenge of raising the bar and decided they would turn to making 'challenging music' when all true music fans know that in 30 years time the best Radiohead songs will be the songs from The Bends, not the akward, introverted melody free songs featured on later albums.

KasabianRule

Jan 22, 2008

Poor Plant one bit of drunken madness.
But to what Binstig said above me, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin is by far the better guitarist between him and Jonny Greenwood and Plant is far beter on vocals then Thom Yorke

awalker007

Jan 22, 2008

what do you mean by jonny greenwood is a better guitarist than led zepps. For a start it doesn't make sense. Have you actually heard of Jimmy Page?????

As for Kid A - probably one of the worst albums of all time. Its an album of noise.

funkymonky

Jan 22, 2008

utter bull. If you had ever listened to led zep you would no just how good said members of led zep are. Radiohead are AVERAGE

andybmxer

Jan 22, 2008

binstig, that comment is so ridiculous i nearly turned my pc off in shame. no one are better than led zep, fullstop.

popandroid

Jan 22, 2008

wow this is a toughy...RH have been my favs for over ten years now but zep has mega cred. i think if i was hanging w/robert i'd force him to listen to a mix cd of their best shit, stuff he's prolly never heard but for radio/video songs, or watch a full concert video. If he refused, THEN i would call him a crotchety old fool, and list all his contemporaries who LOVE radiohead. N something tellls me he must have never sat and listened to Ok Computer, no effing way.

But as far as the last comment, hmm, Robert WAS one of he best singers ever...Jimmy was and still IS arguably the best blues-based guitarist ever...jesus, from communication breakdown, to stairway, to no quarter, that shit will never fade, its perfection.

BUT AT LEAST HE WAS DRUNK! hahaha, i'm willing to give him a temporary pass...he's prolly just jealous of all their hype.

Ha... a very brave comment coming from an overated bunch of OAP's.. Radiohead, possibly the most important band of the last 15 years... The last time i listened to a Led Zep lp, it was more effective than necking a 1000 sleeping pills!!! I completely agree with (binstig)

kidito

Jan 22, 2008

At least radiohead didnt steal any songs ha!

Jan 23, 2008

The best comment about radiohead I ever heard is that it doesn't matter how long Tom Yorke sits behind his piano and sobs about how bad the world is, people are only there to hear 'Creep'.
But how is a drunk Robert Plants opinion on some insignificant band news worthy. It shouldn't be.

NME is a piece of shit

Jan 23, 2008

"300 million albums sold and still selling!." Yeah the Spice Girls have sold quite a few as well.

"If you had ever listened to led zep you would no just how good said members of led zep are. Radiohead are AVERAGE" Maybe if you actually listened to Radiohead.

Honestly you cretins maybe they were playing something from Pablo Honey... or maybe the man was DRUNK. What a non story.

"When I saw Radiohead I thought, well maybe I dont belong in the game any more."

redhotrampledunderfoot

Jan 24, 2008

poor old planty. its a shame he is slagging off RHCP as they teethed on zeps music and have always had so much regard for what can be regarded as some of the greatest music of all time. I'd Like to see zep roll out a 2 yr world tour these days !!

cm90wx

Jan 24, 2008

It may have been immature of Plant, but don't bash Led Zeppelin because their frontman made a few colorful remarks. Jimmy Page is one of the best guitarists of all time, and Robert Plant was one of the best rock vocalists ever (second only to Freddie Mercury, in my opinion). Zeppelin's whole lineup was brilliant...Bonham was one of the best drummers ever, John Paul Jones was a consistently excellent bassist/keyboardist, and Page has played some of the best solos I've ever heard.

Despite Plant's comments, Zeppelin is still far superior to Radiohead and RHCP.

iamnotjohn

Jan 26, 2008

There should be no comparison between guitarists, vocalists and albums. The point is, Robert Plant was drinking somewhere and DEMANDED that the music was changed. That is so SAD. He sucks balls.

On the plus side, he settled for CAPTAIN BEEFHEART who is cooler than Zep,'head, andRHCP put together.

I thinlk the reported comments need to be taken with a rather large pinch of salt. Robert Plant has an encyclopaedic knowledge and appreciation of various musical genres; one only need look at his CV to understand where he is coming from musically. He has a voracious appetite for both playing and listenting and wouldn't have lasted so long were it not for the fact that his musical interests are so diverse. Anyone that knows anything about him and reads a little more eclectically than The Sun will know he has much praise for Thom Yorke's voice and it's transcendent ability to transport the listener to another place. I wouldn't be surprised if Plant has a copy of both The Eraser and In Rainbows!

what a dick.
Radiohead are entirely unsurpassed by those boring fucking stadium rockers; any sense of subtlety is just lost on cunts like him.

sagittariuschik

For your information, you little pieces of punk crap, zeppelin came way before your time and before "punk" was even considered music. It's not. I agree with Plant, it is absolute CRAP! The bands these days really do suck, hence most people turning off the radio, even music in general is going downhill. But like the famous saying goes, history repeats itself. Hopefully that'll include music and it'll be great again one day. Certainly not now.

rowley666

Jun 27, 2008

Meet me I'm a huge fan of Led Zeppelin. Sir Plant was deffinitely right. I also add this list of crap band in the world: Radiohead, RHCP, Blink182, Linkin Park, My chemical Romance, Emmo Stuffs, Rap crap, Hoobastank (with idiot face vocalist), Marrylin Manson, Melodic punk crap, Sum 41, Etc. They're tottaly fake, crap, bullshit, ears disturbance. C'mon, why d'you listen to these kinda craps.. For Led Zeppelin, keep movin on guys, Let the phsychedelic rock era comin back again. The song will always still remains the same.

rowley666

Led Zeppelin is the only band that I listen to.

davetherave765

Aug 17, 2008

Jonny Greenwood is certainly the best Composer and Musician, if not the most technically gifted guitarist of all time. And Thom Yorke is the only man in music still "sticking it to the man". They make the Arctic Monkeys moaning about being in the dole queue look like children.

scw777

Sep 24, 2008

The guy who commented first (binstig) needs to get his facts straight. Radiohead and Led Zeppelin are my two favorite bands; however, there is no way one could say that Johnny Greenwood is better than Jimmy Page and no way anyone could say that Thom Yorke is a better singer than robert plant. Plant was out of his element by saying Radiohead sucks, because they are probably the most artistic rock band of all time, but to say that Led Zeppelin is not as technically talented as Radiohead is bordering on insane.
