The band pip Arctic Monkeys, Babyshambles and Radiohead to the gong

Klaxons have won the Best Album award supported by HMV at the Shockwaves NME Awards 2008 for their debut album, ‘Myths Of The Near Future’.

Collecting the award, the band said: "Cheers! We only got four beers on our table tonight. Thanks!"

The record had already claimed the 2007 Mercury Prize and was pronounced NME Writers' Album Of The Year shortly afterwards.

The other nominees for the Best Album award were Arctic Monkeys (‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’), Babyshambles (Shotter’s Nation), The Enemy (’We’ll Live And Die In These Towns’) and Radiohead (‘In Rainbows’).
